Community Paramedic Program a Successful Initiative
Overview:
Community Paramedics visit patients in their homes, and provide routine serivices, allowing other BC Emergency Health Services team members to be available for ambulance call outs.
BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), we’ve developed a new program, within the last three years where we have community paramedics. It’s a new kind of position…it’s been amazing. So, here it’s – station 303 – there’s two full timers, so myself as the unit chief, I work Tuesday to Friday. [Person X] is the other full timer, Tuesday to Friday. He’s the [Community Paramedic] CP. So, where I’m actually working in an ambulance with a partner, [Person X] has his own vehicle and he makes, you know, routine visits to a certain demographic of the population, asthma, COPD. And he’s been – it’s been a wonderful initiative and we’re hoping to expand that scope as it kind of furthers along and shows itself to be a success.
